For this project, we were given a lot of freedom. We had to solve a problem in the world using biotechnology. In my group was Jake Rubey and Quinton Graybeal. At first we couldn't decide what to do because relating it to biotechnology was difficult. We wanted to make a solution to the lack of energy in the world. We wanted to do a buoy that harnesses the waves energy and turn it into electricity, but our teacher said it didn't relate to biotechnology. We wanted to harness the energy in algae, but we had no realistic way to do this. Finally, we decided to make a shoe that harnesses the energy of walking and turn it into electricity. We went through a bunch of stages of developing our idea to get our project finished. Our prototype is that a lever will be in the bottom of the shoe and when someone takes a step, the lever will rotate a motor that it is attached to and will create electricity. The electricity goes down a wire into a battery pack to fuel up batteries.

CONCEPTS
- energy- power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.
- electricity- a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles (such as electrons or protons), either statically as an accumulation of charge or dynamically as a current.
- cellular respiration- a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products.
- lever- a rigid bar resting on a pivot, used to help move a heavy or firmly fixed load with one end when pressure is applied to the other.
REFLECTION
This was by far my favorite project out of my two years in the STEM program. I was working with my two friends and I took a major leadership role and I really enjoyed it. We worked together great and we got a lot done.
Peaks: Our group choose a solution that was attainable and that we all understood and this helped us in that everyone could work on anything.
Peak: Our communication in our group was great as we were all friends and were able to tell each other what was needed.
Pits: It took us a while to figure out what our solution would be. This cost us valuable time.
Pit: Some of us had to miss days of school and this caused us to be partially unorganized and lost us time.
Things I learned: I am a great leader if I am devoted.
Thing I learned: JBQ work very well together.
Things I could have done better: I made a few mistakes in that I ordered the wrong size supplies. I didn't look far enough into the measurement details and this harmed our group's time management. I will pay attention to the details better.
Could Have done better: I could have stayed focus better. Their were a few days in which I lost focus and didn't achieve much. I will continue to work on this in the future, however I do believe that I am improving.
